What am I, Canadian?

Sightseeing in London

A tourist in my native land.

Mike and Toni, who blog together at Pond Parleys, have a pretty cool set-up. He’s an American living in Britain, she’s a Briton living in America, and they regularly engage in he said/she said banter about the cultural differences they encounter in their adopted countries.

They sound like fun people, so I asked if I could write a guest post for them about the joys and tribulations of growing up with immigrant parents. All that begging paid off, because they finally agreed. The post is titled Canadian, eh?

I used to be English, but now I’m Canadian. More or less.

I was barely out of diapers (or is that nappies? Two sentences in, and already I’m losing my linguistic footing), when my parents decided to move to Canada. At the tender age of almost-four, assimilation was easier for me than it was for them. Not that there weren’t bumps along the way.

You can read the rest over at Pond Parleys. (Oh c’mon! It’s just one little click!)
